This is a decorative 9” plate featuring "The Art of Chokin," a traditional Japanese art form where images are engraved onto metal and gilded with precious gold and silver. The art form originated in the late 12th century and was initially used to adorn the armaments of Samurai warriors. The images are created by etching pure copper and then gilding it with silver and 24-karat gold. This specific plate features a design of roses and is edged in 24-karat gold.
