Red drum/ Red Fish are key game fish from the Gulf, Florida up to New York. Colors can be a dull brown-gray to copper to a goldfish color and almost pass as a snapper. These fish are powerful and eat like lobsters and are great to fish with traditional or fly fishing tackle. The dotting in the tail is to evade predators as the eye of the fish. Some dot patterns can camouflage the fish too. Wonderful fish to paint, most that I have caught have several tiny colors in the hill plates and shimmer in sunlight.
