This is a rare and striking South-Up world globe based on the famous McArthur “Universal Corrective Map of the World” projection, designed to challenge the traditional north-up orientation of maps by placing the Southern Hemisphere at the top.
This globe dates to the Cold War era (circa mid-1970s to early-1980s) and reflects the political geography of that time, including:
•
Divided East West Germany
•
Soviet Union
•
Yugoslavia
•
Czechoslovakia
•
Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo)
These historical labels firmly place the globe in the 1970s–early 1980s period, making it both a design object and a historical artifact.
