I believe this vintage Whiting & Davis Alumesh purse dates to the 40’s. Purse has a “kiss” snap closure and is made of metal (from the name “Alumesh” and its lightness I’m assuming it’s made of aluminum.
Size is 8” x 7” x 2”
Link handle is about 11” long.
Lined in burgundy taffeta and features a label if authenticity inside. One slip pocket inside.
Purse frame, handle and kiss lock are made of celluloid. I see a number of these bags listed in various places that state the frame is “celluloid Bakelite”. I have tested the frame with Simichrome but it does NOT test positive for Bakelite.
This bag is in great condition for its age but it needs a little TLC. Mesh is pulling away from the frame on one side. Someone skilled in repair (think shoe repair) or restoration could return this to its former beauty.
